December 7....we dine in Zarahemla

It seems like Sophie the Elf has renewed vigor...it's almost like she's under new management....or like she is under the direction of a person that can focus all of her 14 year old energy on making an Elf's nightly adventures contribute to the magical fun of being a kid at Christmas. Because Sophie is crazy knocking it out of the park these days....

Me and Tootsie admire and understand that while such energy is good and right and so appreciated....we really don't have much time left to devote to those endeavors after we're done with our daily snooze by the space heater.

Oh...fun fact! Live trees need water!

Consistently.

I'm feeling like we may need to go back to Home Depot and procure that handy tall funnel we made fun of the night we picked the tree.  You can't blame us. We were live tree newbies.

Tonight is the Ward Christmas Party! And we are rolling with the "Night in Zarahemla" theme.  It was so charming!

The Hufford Family became Nephite fruit vendors. And we fully embraced the child labor practices of the day. Everly is an experienced pineapple scooper.

We were told to dress in the stylings of ancient America. Sooo, naturally we feel that they would wear the same thing as their contemporaries in Jeruselem....because we only have one tote with ripped up sheets. It seemed okay. I mean, what are they gonna do? STONE us??

Not a chance. We have all the pineapple.

Best thing about Night at Zarahemla is the hundreds of chairs and tables we WON'T have to clean up at the end of the night.

And the entertainment for the evening was provided by our own Bro. Christensen....an honest to goodness professional playwrite.  Mari Guenther directed and Mathew played Samuel the Lamanite! His friend, Ashlyn, was the sarcastic angel and that little boy on the stairs is the ever-present-kid-that-escaped-his-parents.

My absolute favorite part was when Mathew was told to "get creative" and find a way to warn the people one last time. He went out the gym doors and ad-libbed his climb onto the wall...."oh weird, there's a door here. (The door to the stage) Huh. Ugh...wow. This is pretty tall....."

It was so awesome.

I was so impressed with these teenagers and how bravely they performed. I just can't let go of my inhibitions like that.

The last scene of the play where we see the baby Jesus in Jerusalem and the congregation sings Silent Night....

Conducted by or darling Sam Garcia...who gained his leading experience from being a drum major....and that's just fun for everyone.

Oh, Zarahemla....you always know how to party.
