Julia and I decided it would be super awesome if we attended the Messiah Singalong and the Grace and Trinity Cathedral in downtown KC. We were pretty sure we'd be amazing at it.
We went about 30 minutes early so we could snag a parking spot somewhere close by and not have too far to walk. Turns out folks aren't really beating down the cathedral door to participate in this. We parked quite easily in the itty bitty parking lot. We did, thank heavens, snag the very last copy of the vocal score. Not sure what we would have done if we hadn't gotten one of those.
Oh wait, we would have done the exact same thing....hum along.
Because, you guessed it, we don't know The Messiah.
The building was gorgeous, and the music was heavenly.
This ancient gentlemen was crazy fantastic and didn't miss a note, even though I truly wondered if he had the strength to get to his car by any other means than a piggy back ride. He made it on his own steam and I stand corrected.
The highlight of the night (other than the Hallelujah Chorus) was this second violinist. He was so very happy to be playing and his eyebrows weren't afraid to show it. ADORABLE.
Anywho....by the second hour, we were both exhausted from our futile efforts to jump in with a word or note here and there. We have vowed to dedicate many hours to mastering our parts for next year. This is 100% guaranteed to happen. Because I can't even count how many times I have thought, "Hmm... I don't have a thing to do...I guess I'll work on mastering the alto part of "All We Like Sheep".
Next year we wow them.
