Sweethearts Dance

 Laney and Cole doubled with Andrea and Jillian to go to the Sweethearts Dance!

I found out this was happening exactly 3 days before the dance and with a combination of thrift store grit and and easy to please kid, we found the dress, shoes and earrings in one after school shopping trip.

When the momarazzi shoot was over, they were off to Texas Roadhouse for dinner and then to the dance. I picked them all up and took them to Andrea's house for an after party. I'm so glad Laney has such good friends and they are making these memories together!

 Laney and her friends all went to homecoming together! It was Halloween themed and Laney was looking mighty cute with those combat boots and dangly skeleton earrings. 

I was secretly thrilled that Laney wanted me to help with their make-up. I didn't show it...I played it cool. I only shed six or seven happy tears of joy. I'm sure they didn't notice.

I love seeing Laney's style emerge.

Megan and the Prom

 Would it even be an official trip to Utah if I didn't miss out on at least one special and important event?

I missed her last piano recital. The very last one. And the one she wore her prom dress to and her darling piano teacher stood up and told her how much she is going to miss teaching her. Megan was her one and only student for a couple of years. And they had the kind of friendship that helps a kid get through. 

But wait! I also missed seeing Megan go to Senior Prom all dressed up in this gorgeous dress. So that isn't my favorite thing. But she had a wonderful time! Isn't she beautiful?

I did get her this corsage just for the occasion, which was tragically traded under duress...I won't get into it. It's too sad. But we have pictures and it lives on in our memories.

 

Sad as I was to miss it, she had a wonderful time and sent me great photos!

Homecoming for Laney

 Wouldn't you know it? 

I missed Laney's homecoming while I was away on the girls trip. 

I can't win for losin. 

But doesn't Laney look like a million bucks? And she agreed to send me some pictures so I wouldn't miss out totally. 

I am so glad that these kids get together and go to the dances in these friend groups. I think it's so fun! I wish my generation had done more of this. 

Homecoming with Dad

 I have a special gift for going out of town when important things are happening at home. It's ok. I torture myself to make up for it. 

Megan is went to Homecoming while Laney and I were in Utah. I took her shopping to find a cute dress before I left. She found the perfect one at Plato's Closet! And it was 12 bucks!

Which meant we had lots of budget for KILLER SHOES.

Now remember. I'm not there on the day of the dance. Or the days leading up to it when Megan decided she should go get a haircut. From Nicole...the lady that wants everyone to have long, blonde highlights. 

It was....a little short. 

You can see exactly home much she liked it right there in her face. We thought she was a dead ringer for Aunt Jenny when she was that age. Tell me I'm wrong. 

So the day of the dance comes. Mark is chatting with Megan and he finds out that her finds are all going to dinner without her. There was a miscommunication at some point and she wasn't included in the reservations. She said it was no big deal (classic Megan) and that she would just go get a burger on her own (oh, heck no).  Mark got dressed up and took his daughter out to dinner.

Off to the park to snap some pictures. So pretty!

Mathew was invited to a formal party with his "Spring Hill Friends".

They were trying to recreate the prom they all missed when school was cancelled. He was one of three boys that showed up. And the others wore athletic shorts.

I'd say, they were dang lucky to have him!

And I was bitterly disappointed that he wouldn't let me sneak in to snag some photos.

Good thing I have my L1 certification in social media stalkery.

Everly dance recital

The big day is finally here!

Luckily the day will not be quite as "big" as last year. Anna and Laney opted for piano lessons instead of dance classes. That means we only need to spend a portion of our day at the Lied Center.

I was mainly there to curl her hair, touch up her mascara and make sure she didn't feel alone.

She did so great!
