Birdie Girl

It's a terrifying reality to love something so small and vulnerable.

Thanksgiving 2024

It's our year to have Ethan and Kassie for Thanksgiving! Next year we get Christmas!

Mathew won't make it, he's having his last Thanksgiving in Idaho with his best friend, Damian. I'm happy that he's got people there that he will miss and that will miss him.

We will make our assigned dishes and head over to the Flynns, as we do.

Winnie is front and center, helping me with ham, rolls and chocolate lasagna.

She drives me a little batty, but that little warm bird belly on my forehead is pretty adorable, too. And she has an excellent vantage point hanging from my hair.

The Spread

The Friends (Laney is taking the photo)

Aidan's brave debut of his most recently learned chords...I do believe it was the infant stages of The Sweater Song.

Some high caliber chillin

Kylie, Miranda, and Emma took Laney, AJ and Everly to see Wicked at the movie theater. So we made our way to the basement to watch Fall Guy. It is and will always be one of my favorites.

Silliness!

We went home full, happy and entertained. It was a perfect day!

Turtles are better that budgets

I have been sitting in the corner of the couch for almost 8 weeks now. In fact, I am two days away from freedom.

In that time I have caught up on nearly a year's worth of blogging (2021 to 2022 will be noticeably less rich in detail) (I'm sorry) (I can't help it. Sometimes life is hard and it feels soooo unbloggable).

I have had the budget book sitting within arms reach for over a month.

But I decided to crochet this little turtle instead.

Winnie helped.

I can't get over his little shell back pack! I'm pretty pleased with my efforts.

Winnie will try to take most of the credit, but she's lying.

Feathered Friends

She's not another parrotlet, but she's a darn fine substitution.

Her inner dragon

Now I know why the bird breeder rolled his eyes when I asked for a parrotlet with a "sweet temperment".

His words: "Parrotlets are not known for their sweetness".

She makes up for it with her evening snuggles.

Garden Birdie

I'm so nervous that a hawk will swoop in and grab her up. But she loves the garden! And I can't really blame her, can I?

Those Johnny Jump Ups are so.....munchible.

So I'll stand at the ready and guard my garden buddy from hungry hawks. Because she deserves to enjoy this little patch of heaven!

Garden babies, wedding nails and the gooseberry deluge

The garden babies are appearing.

My first baby grapes!

At the very most, we will get three apples this year.

I'm pretty sure these are volunteer jalapeño plants. Look how cool! The seeds sprouted right in the shape of the jalapeño that fell there.

A little less cool is the absolute flood of gooseberry plants that are sprouting up in every single bed. I'm gonna need to wage ruthless war on the gooseberries.

Luckily I have my wedding nails to ring their little gooseberry necks.

Also...look at this cute little blue bird:
