True Love

Some days I know in my heart that the very best way to show Mark that I love him is to scrub the rubber flooring in the garage.

He NEEDS it

I'd say Blake got his money's worth out of garagefit today.

Free time

Picture this.

Mark and I sitting on the steps just inside the garage. Looking around at the nasty white walls that show every bump and scuff from the last 14 years. We think about painting. We talk about the color. Would grey be too dark? What about a fresh white coat? But dude. It's summer and it's SOOO hot in that garage. We should do something like that in the fall.

And then we walk away and we have the same conversation in a year. (We are having way to much fun in the fall to ruin it by painting the garage.)

But this year.

This year is different. We've got nothing better to do and we have plenty if time to burn. And as we sat on that step this time, all those old conversations came flooding back into my mind and I remembered that once or twice, I promised we'd do that for his birthday.

Or Father's Day.

Anniversary......

There's only one thing to do.....CARPE PANDIEM!

We picked a color. Bought the supplies and decided to do the "one wall at a time" method. There is way to much stuff in there to take it all off at the same time.

Spackling those walls. My word. You have no idea.

Mark and I make the perfect painting team. I love the trim. I love to cut it in with a high quality brush. That feeling you get when you first see that new color against the white ceiling. It makes me smile just thinking about it. Then he comes in and rolls it out. We are totes MFEO.

The first wall done and we moved on to the tv wall. Look at that nastiness!

Doesn't that look so much better??

And the worst one. That's a lot of stuff to move. I'd bet a thousand dollars that there is at least one mouse family in there that are about to be super ticked.

Inevitably there comes a time in every project when we realize that we are both outside sweating and working and the kids are inside racking up shameful amounts of screen time.

We can take care of that.

It took us 4 days and 23 trips to Home Depot....but it's all done! And we LOVE it.

Happy Father's Birthiversary!

The Murph...Gargefit edition

On Track is closed.

But the Murph goes on. We had some friends over and we got to it.

The reason we do the Murph:

In early 2005 Murphy was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE as officer in charge of Alpha Platoon and deployed to Afghanistan. In June of that year, Murphy was leading a four-man reconnaissance team in Kunar province as part of a counter-insurgent mission (the other men in Murphy’s team were Danny Dietz, Matthew Axelson and Marcus Luttrell). During the mission the team encountered a group of local goat herders.
.A discussion was held among the four SEALs regarding the rules of engagement and what they should do with the herders, who were being held at gunpoint. Eventually the men decided to release them, but not soon after the SEALs were surrounded and ambushed by an overwhelming Taliban force. Murphy, who was trying to reach HQ via satellite phone, willingly exposed himself to enemy fire by stepping into a clearing where he might get a signal to make the call. Murphy was shot in the back, but still managed to calmly complete the call for reinforcements and return to his position to continue the fight with his men. HQ sent an MH-47 Chinook helicopter to rescue the team, but while attempting to set down in rugged terrain, the helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, killing all 16 men on board.  In early 2005 Murphy was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE as officer in charge of Alpha Platoon and deployed to Afghanistan. In honor of Lt. Michael Murphy, killed June 28, 2005, in Afghanistan:
Murph
1-mile run
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 squats
1-mile run
Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you’ve got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.
This workout was actually created by Murphy himself, and he originally titled it ‘Body Armor’

Building the dream

We have boxes, folks.

Built by Mark and stenciled by Maren and her extensive child labor force.

Garagefit is born

Mark has worked so hard to build this gym in our garage. He has arranged and rearranged. He seeks form and function and isn't afraid to devote his free time to making it the best it can be.

And then he shares.

Garagefit is born.

And I think we need more floor mats.

Maybe a few kettlebells.

6-8 abmats....a couple jump ropes.... let me get a paper and pencil....

And so it grows

Is it just me? or is our workout equipment making friends and having babies?

A Garage Gym is born

Mark has a dream.

It started with a major clean-out of the garage. And some space to install a pull-up bar. Looks good!

What's a gym without a couple barbells? Oh...and then a couple 2x4's and a youtube tutorial to build a rack.

Now we'll need a few (just a few, mind you!) rubber mats to lift on, so we can safely drop the barbell from overhead.

How about some rings? Ring rows are always a good idea!

Time for the boys to come play.

Mark always finds a way to make things real.
